How do I know if Physiotherapy is the right therapy for me?

Physiotherapy aims to identify the cause of the pain rather than just ease the pain, and this is done through assessing joint and muscle movement to identify abnormalities.

I use mobilisations, soft tissue massage, exercises and ultrasound as treatment techniques. If you are at all unsure as to whether physiotherapy is the right therapy for you, please don't hesitate to call me for a chat and I will advise you.

Is Physiotherapy guaranteed to resolve my problem?

In some instances, conditions can be treated with appropriate techniques and you can be pain free relatively quickly. However, in other instances further investigations or other treatments would need to be considered. I can advise you on that depending what I find at your initial consultation.

How do I make an appointment?

The quickest way is to phone me direct on 07522620685. If I am unavailable please leave me a message and I will get back to you the same day.

How long does the appointment last?

The initial assessment and first treatment will usually last between 30-45 minutes. Subsequent treatments usually last between 20-30 minutes depending on the problem.

You will have a question and answer session to begin with which gives you the opportunity to describe your problem. It will also allow me to ask specific questions to help identify potential causes for your pain. After this, you will be assessed. This involves looking at muscles, ligaments and tendons and individual joints. Having had the assessment the probable cause of your pain and the appropriate treatment plan will be discussed. If you are happy to continue with treatment, there will be a treatment session at your initial consultation and you will be advised on an appropriate exercise plan to continue with at home.

How many treatments will I need?

This is difficult to answer! Some conditions can be treated in 1 or 2 visits, while others, such as a nasty back injury or fractured ankle rehabilitation can require multiple sessions. At your initial appointment I will hopefully be able to give you an estimate of how many sessions you may need.

Do I need get a referral from the GP?

No, private physiotherapists do not need a referral from GPs to undertake an assessment or treatment. If the treatment is being claimed through an insurance company then you will need to ask them whether they require a referral.
